Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia police said on May 6 thatthey had thwarted a scheme by an Islamic State (IS)-affiliated group to conductsuicide bombings on the day the presidential election results will be announcedat the end of this month.
Seven alleged terrorists were arrested and another waskilled by the police during raids last weekend in Bekasi, near Jakarta, and inBitung in North Sulawesi province.
They were members of the Jemaah Anshurat Daulah (JAD) group,which has pledged allegiance to the IS and been accused of being behind aseries of attack at churches in Surabaya in May 2018.
The group reportedly planned to set off bombs at variouslocations when election results are announced on May 22.
National police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo said the group aimsto take advantage of chaos before and after the announcement and target anumber of police stations.-VNA
