Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla asked for a non-discriminatorytreatment for Indonesian cocoa products on May 14, which are currentlylevied with import duties of 5-6 percent while those from Africa havetax exemptions.
Kalla is in London for the FCC annual conference on May 15.
According to him, cocoa is Indonesia’s third largest currency earner, behind palm oil and rubber.
Indonesia is currently the third largest cocoa producer after theIvory Coast and Ghana with an annual production of 750,000 tonnes. Thenation aims to augment production by 50 percent for exports in 2020.-VNA
