Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) on February 28 received atotal of 24 F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets as part of the procurementprogramme from the US.
The aircraft werehanded over at Iswahyudi Air Force Base in Malang, East Java of Indonesia,according to the TNI.
The ceremony wasattended by TNI Commander Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Defence MinisterRyamizard Ryacudu and US Ambassador to Indonesia Joseph Donovan.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon is asingle engine supersonic multirole fighteraircraft originally developed by GeneralDynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the US Air Force. Over 4,500aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976. Despite nolonger being purchased by the US Air Force, improved versions are being builtfor exports. -VNA
