Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s anti-terrorism force is continuing its raid to hunt the remaining 18 members of the Mujahiden of East Indonesia (MIT) terrorist group who have been operating in Poso, Sulawesi island, after the group leader Santoso, the country’s most-wanted terrorist, was gunned down.

Among the remaining militant members of the terrorist group, Basri, considered the right-hand of Santoso is the top target.

Indonesian National police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar said Basri and his wife escaped in a gunfight between the group and the Indonesian Special Forces counter-terrorism squad on July 18, where Santoso was confirmed killed.

Chief of police of Central Sulawesi, General Rudy Sufahriadi has called on the remaining members of the MIT to surrender, committing that they will be given humanitarian treatment and their human rights in litigation.

Santoso and his supporters have announced their loyalty to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS). They are accused of being behind several attacks in recent years, including a bomb attack in Jakarta on January 24 this year, which killed eight people and injured nearly 30 others.-VNA
