Hanoi (VNA) – At least 15 people were dead and 25 others missing after a rain-triggered landslide struck an unauthorised gold mining operation in Solok district, West Sumatra province on September 26.
According to the local disaster mitigation agency, there were also three people injured.
Search efforts were hampered by the isolated location and a lack of telecommunications.
Illegally operated mining activities are widespread across Indonesia and several accidents have occurred in recent years as a result. In July, over 20 people were killed, and more than 10 remain missing following a landslide at an unlicensed gold mine in Gorontalo province, eastern Indonesia./.
