Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia is considering to invite foreign investors to set up a joint venture in the fishery sector in Natuna island district, Riau province.

Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said that investment, cooperation and development opportunities will be opened for the locality’s fishery industry, which is estimated to reach one million tonnes of fish production yearly.

The country has asked China and Japan to support the island in bolstering economic development and creating jobs for locals.

President Joko Widodo has ordered construction of infrastructure and a cold storage in Natura.

The fishery industry in Natura needs to be developed and accelerated because the fishing capacity is so far only 9 percent of Natura’s potential.

Natuna is expected to become a large fish auction centre in the region like Japan.

Natura is one of Indonesia’s outermost region, is known to have one of the largest oil and gas reserves in the world.-VNA
