Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesia’s national police force hastaken security measures for the possibility of terrorist attacks on policeoffices by militants which aim to cause huge fatalities ahead of Islamic Eidal-Fitr festival.
National police spokesperson Setyo Wasisto on June 20 saidan operation has been undertaken to counter potential terrorist threats.
He added that the operation was to prepare for possiblestrikes on key locations and police stations.
National Police chief General Tito Karnavian ordered thespecial counter-terror squad Densus 88 to step up monitoring and supervision ofthe activities of terrorist groups ahead of Eid al-Fitr festival, which fallson June 26-27.
He also stressed the need to take a preventive act and quickrespond if there is any indication of the movement linked to terrorist cells.
Indonesia has suffered from several suicide bombings byIS-linked militants. The latest case was the twin blasts on May 24 at a bus stationin Jakarta’s eastern Kampung Melayu area, killing 15 people. - VNA
