Indonesia declares end of COVID-19 pandemic

Indonesian President Joko Widodo on June 21 officially declared the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, marking the start of the endemic stage.

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President JokoWidodo on June 21 officially declared the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in thecountry, marking the start of the endemic stage.

Widodo told the press at Merdeka Palace that thegovernment's decision to declare the end of the pandemic is based on the factthat currently, the number of COVID-19 daily cases in Indonesia is close tozero, he said.

He cited serosurvey reports showing that 99% of theIndonesian population already has COVID-19 antibodies.

Though the pandemic has been declared as over, Widodoasked residents to remain cautious and continue to follow a clean and healthylifestyle.

With this decision, the national economic developmentwill be better, and the people's economy and social lives will improve, he believed./.
