Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi called on G20member states to strengthen cooperation in fighting terrorism while addressingthe G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on May 22.
The G20 mustdemonstrate leadership and contribute to fighting terrorism to maintain globalsecurity and peace, she noted.
Marsudi told theministers that terrorism posed a real threat. Lauding the solidarity among theG20 members following terrorist attacks in Indonesia, the minister proposedmeasures to counter terrorism as an integral part of discussions at themeeting.
Mentioning a seriesof bomb attacks in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city, last week,Marsudi said Indonesian authorities and police had worked quickly to identify andarrest suspected terrorists.
The G20 ForeignMinisters Meeting focused on multilateralism and the role of institutions inglobal governance and cyber security.
The delegateslooked into the international geo-political landscape in the wake of tensionsbetween some of the world’s powers. They agreed to continue enhancing cooperationin issues like terrorism and climate change.
During a retreaton May 21, the ministers discussed mechanisms towards equal and sustainabledevelopment at the global level, challenges regarding IT and cyber security, andchanges of models in commerce and migration.-VNA
