Indonesia boosts regional cooperation on digital diplomacy

Jakarta (VNA) – Vietnamese delegates are joining those from ASEAN membernations, and countries in Asia Pacific at the Regional Conference on Digital Diplomacy (RCDD) in Jakarta, Indonesia onSeptember 10-11.

Hosted by the Indonesian ForeignMinistry, the RCDD is the first conference on digital diplomacy held in theregion.

In his opening speech, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi noted theimportance of the implementation of RCDD, saying it serves as a forum for stakeholdersin the region to discuss opportunities and challenges facing diplomacy in thedigital era, and ways to use technologies in diplomacy to reach progress andmutual prosperity.

He said the RCDD will encourage future cooperation to narrow the technologicaland digital gap in the region, and offer an opportunity for all parties,including the private sector, to develop opportunities for cooperation indigital technology.

The regional conference agreed to adopt “The Jakarta Message on RegionalCooperation on Digital Diplomacy”, which recognises the importance of digitaldiplomacy, joint commitment in building messages, and digital diplomacycooperation between relevant stakeholders, including an appeal for building acommunity free from false information.

The Jakarta message has been supplemented by an action plan for sustainable cooperationbetween the government, private sector and other stakeholders in buildingregional networks to step up utilisation of digital technology for diplomacy.

On the sidelines of the event, a digital technology exhibitionis held with the participation of startups and otherpotential partners./.

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi
