According to MNEK training director Commodore Amarullah Octavian, thesecond event will give priority to maritime peace-keeping operationsunder the United Nations’ flag.
The 2014 Komodo officially wrapped up on April 3 in Riau Island province.
Asthe host of the event, the Indonesian Navy fielded its biggest force,with 4,800 personnel and 27 ships, while foreign participants sent atotal of 1,500 personnel.
Initiated by Indonesia and the US, theMNEK was to enhance the cooperation in performing humanitarianassistance activities and disaster relief work between naval forcesof ASEAN member countries and their eight dialogue partners (ASEAN+8) ofthe US, Russia, India, Australia, New Zealand, China, the Republic ofKorea, and Japan.
Besides ASEAN and ASEAN8+ countries, thesix-day exercise also saw the participation of observers from the UN andthe European Union.-VNA
