New Delhi (VNA) -Armies of India and Thailand on August 6 began a two week-long militaryexercise with a focus on enhancing anti-terror cooperation between the twosides.
The Press Trust of India (PTI) quoted a senior Indian Army official as saying that the focus of theexercise 'Maitree' is to increase interoperability and enhance coordination indealing with the challenge of terrorism.
"The exercise will hone the tactical and technical skills in joint counterinsurgency and counter terrorist operations in rural and urban scenario underUN mandate," he said.
Both sides will jointly train, plan and execute a series of well- developedtactical drills that may be encountered in an urban warfare scenario," headded.
India and Thailand have been hit by a number of deadly terrorist attacks. Inlast April, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan admittedthat the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) is likely planning a base in hiscountry.-VNA
