Vientiane (VNA) – The death anniversary of the Hung Kings, the legendary foundersof Vietnam, will be observed in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on April 5-6.
Inan interview with the Vietnam News Agency, Pham Van Hung, Vice Chairman andGeneral Secretary of the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos, saidpreparations for the festival, the first of its kind in Laos, have now beencompleted.
TheVietnamese Embassy in Laos held a working session with representatives of theassociation and its chapters, businesses, and the Vietnamese community in thecountry. During the session, a working group of 22 people in charge oforganisation, logistics, and communications for the event was set up, he said.
Theoverseas Vietnamese (OVs) in Laos are excited and looking forward to the event,which is of great significance to their cultural and spiritual life, Hungnoted.
EchoingHung’s views, Nguyen Duy Trung, Chairman of the association, said the festivalwill help strengthen solidarity among the Vietnamese community in Laos.
Afterlearning about the commemoration, the association has informed its chapters inLaos about the event through social networking platforms, aiming to inform all Vietnamesecitizens across the country about the event as soon as possible, he said.
Legend has it that the Hung Kings ruled Vietnamfrom 2879 BC until 258 BC and they are widely considered the founders of thenation. To honour the Kings, the tenth day of the third lunar month wasdesignated as their national commemorative anniversary date.
The worshipping rituals of the Hung Kings wasrecognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012. –VNA
