Hanoi (VNA) – EarthHour Ambassador Thuy Van and hundreds of workers from Hanoi City PowerCorporation walked along main streets in downtown Hanoi on March 21 in responseto Earth Hour 2017.
The walk was held bythe Hanoi Power Corporation, a member of the Electricity of Vietnam Group(EVN), to call on people to together save energy and protect the environment.
Addressing the event,EVN Hanoi Deputy Director General Nguyen Quang Trung said the Earth Hour campaignhas won more support from Hanoians since it was first launched in the city. Toarouse more enthusiasm from local residents, the EVN Hanoi has held more than100 meetings at residential quarters, schools and state agencies to talk aboutsaving power, he noted.
Trung added that over3,000 banners have been placed at public locations while around 100,000leaflets and 10,000 posters have been given away to raise public awareness onthe matter.
The EVN Hanoi plans toswitch lights off at public places for one hour from 20:30 to 21:30 on March 25this year, the EVN Hanoi manager said.
Earth Hour AmbassadorThuy Van, who was second runner-up of Miss Vietnam 2008, spoke highly of thetheme of Earth Hour this year – “Turn off the lights, light up the future”.
Even a small action byan individual like turning off electrical devices when they are not in use orreducing plastic use will greatly contribute to changing climate change, savingenergy and protecting the environment, she stated.-VNA
