Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on August 17designated Samdech Techo Hun Sen as the prime minister for another five-year termafter his Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won a sweeping victory in a July 29general election.
The decision was made following a request from the CPP, which won all 125 parliamentaryseats in the election.
Earlier, PM Hun Sen said that a newgovernment will be set up on September 6, one day after the first session ofthe 6th National Assembly.
According to the official results announced by the National Election Committee (NEC),the CPP garnered more than 4.88 million votes, or 76.85 percent, of the total validvotes.
This is the first time the CPP has swept up all seats in the parliament sincethe election in 1993, thus opening up opportunities for the Party to make majordecisions and policies for the country over the next five years.
Hun Sen, 66, who has been in power for 33 years, will continue to lead the Cambodiangovernment for another five years.-VNA
