Hong Kong (VNA) - Vietnamese Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau (China) Hoang Chi Trung on January 15 hosted a banquet to mark the 66th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and China (January 18, 1950).

The event saw the participation of representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, local governments and Vietnamese representative agencies in Hong Kong.

Addressing the banquet, Trung expressed his delight at the growing friendship between Vietnam and China despite challenges over the past 66 years.

2015 was a year marked by the numerous meetings held between the leaders of the two nations’ Parties and States, Trung said; adding that through the many meetings, a strong impetus has been created to consolidate the Vietnam-China comprehensive and strategic partnership, in a more healthy and stable manner.

China has continuously been the biggest trade partner of Vietnam over the past 11 years, Trung reiterated.

In the first 10 months of 2015, the two-way trade between the two nations reached 54.8 billion USD, up 14.4 percent from the same period of 2014.

The figure is expected to exceed 60 billion USD for the entire 2015 and 100 billion USD in 2017.

Trung expressed his hope that the relationship between Vietnam and Hong Kong will grow together with the two nations’ fruitful cooperation, particularly in economics, trade and investment.

He expressed his belief that the traditional friendship between the two neighbouring countries will grow even more in the future, contributing to regional peace and stability.

Special Envoy of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong Song Zhe, said the friendship and the comprehensive and strategic partnership between the two nations have stood the test of time and still continues to grow.

With joint efforts, the bilateral relations between the two countries have become more practical, benefiting the two peoples while fostering the development and prosperity of both nations, a contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world, he said.-VNA
