Hoa Binh’s officials get warnings after exam cheating scandal

Hoa Binh (VNA) - The Executive Committee of the Party Organisation of northern Hoa Binhprovince on August 1 decided to discipline two Party members for theirinvolvement in the national high school graduation exam cheating scandal lastyear.

They are Bui Van Cuu,member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board, Vice Chairman of theprovincial People's Committee and head of the provincial steering committee forthe national high school exam 2017-2018, and Bui Trong Dac, member of theprovincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director ofthe provincial Department of Education and Training, permanent vice chairman ofthe steering committee and chairman of the provincial council for the nationalhigh school exam 2017-2018.

With most votes fromParty members in agreement, the Executive Committee of the Hoa Binh Party Organisationgave Cuu a warning. Investigations showed that Cuu, as a leader of theprovincial exam steering committee, did not conduct proper inspections andsupervision throughout different periods of the exam, especially while markingtest papers.

Since then, as manyas 65 candidates received higher marks than their original ones causing seriousconsequences.

As many as sevenworkers of the provincial educational sector were temporarily detained forfurther investigation.

Most members of theprovincial Party Committee proposed the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat todismiss Dac from his position in the provincial Party Committee or all of hispositions in the Party for his mistakes.

He also lackedsupervision during the exam, especially during the marking of exam papers.

Earlier, the provincialParty Committee’s Inspection Board gave a warning to Nguyen Duc Luong, Deputy Directorof the provincial Department of Education and Training, deputy head of the examsteering committee and head of the exam questions printing committee.

Warnings were alsogiven to two deputy heads of the exam steering committee, including Nguyen ThiHuong, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Education and Training,and Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Director of the provincial Police Department.

Doubts over the highschool exam results in Hoa Binh were raised last year after the provinceannounced that it had 27 students scoring nine points or higher in maths,accounting for 4.7 percent of the country.

Investigation showedthat the exam results of 65 students had been raised. With a maximum score often, some students had their test scores raised by 0.2 to 9.25.-VNA
