Hoa Binh (VNA) – Serious subsidence onroads, especially Road 445, in the northern province of Hoa Binh was reported dueto torrential rains in recent days.
Rainfall in the province was measured at more than 1,000mm. Floods, flash floods and landslidesoccurred in many places, damaging houses and roads.
Nine houses in Dong Tien ward, Hoa Binh city,completely collapsed, while ten others partially collapsed and nine houses hadcracks and could collapse anytime.
A serious landslide occurred on Road 445’s Km 3in May Giay hamlet, Dan Ha commune, Ky Son district, on July 30 with theappearance of a crack about 100m long and 20cm wide and a subsided section over40cm deep. The situation became more serious on August 2.
Vice Chairman of the Ky Son district People’sCommittee Hoang Van Minh said eight households in dangerous areas had beenmoved to safer places.
Aworking group from the Central Steering Committee for Natural DisasterPrevention and Control led by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development andhead of the committee Nguyen Xuan Cuong has inspected and instructed repairs tothe subsidence on the provincial road.
A working delegation from theMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment has also made a fact-finding tourto Hoa Binh to inspect its landslide.
Meanwhile, the Hoa Binh hydro-meteorologystation, Hoa Binh hydropower company, and Hoa Binh office of steering committeeon natural disaster prevention, search and rescue have conducted a survey onthe landside area in Dong Tien ward to put forth solutions to addressing thematter and stabilising local lives.
To date, Hoa Binh province has evacuated 35 households near theerosion area to safer places. As many as 140 families in Da Bac and Cao Phongdistricts have been moved out of areas which are prone to landslides.-VNA
