HCM City (VNA) – The starting pointof the Ho Chi Minh Trail – Km Zero – in the central province of Nghe An’s TanKy district has been recognised as a special national relic.
The recognition was announced by theprovincial People’s Committee Office on May 13.
Tan Ky People’s Committee was tasked withprotecting and promoting the site, which is expected to become an attraction oflocal tourism.
The wartime legendary trail starts from NgheAn and runs through Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam,Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and ends in Binh Phuoc. It passes throughareas of dense jungles, and served as a key artery supplying weapons, goods,food, military equipment and personnel from the North to the South during thecountry’s resistance war against the US.
Nearly 17,000km of the strategic trailhelped transport weapons and soldiers to the battlefields, contributing to thesuccess of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign in 1975 to liberate the south and reunitethe country.
The ending point of the trail at Km No. 1200in Chon Thanh district of the southern province of Binh Phuoc has also been nameda special national relic.-VNA
