Moscow (VNA) - Deputy Speakerof the Federation Council of Russia Konstantin Kosachev has delivered a video speech at the firstplenary session of the 42nd General Assemblyof the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), affirming that thedevelopment of cooperation in high-tech and innovative sectorsis one of the main priorities of the Russia-ASEAN dialogue.
The senator noted that the developmentof relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) is a priority when it comes to Russia’s foreign policyin the region.
“The year 2021 is marked by a doubleanniversary – the 30th anniversaryof Russia-ASEAN relations and the 25th anniversaryof the full-scale Russia-ASEAN dialogue. Our foreign ministers helda meeting in July on this occasion and outlined a listof tasks that we have to deal with, as wellas at the highest level, including the adoptionof a comprehensive action plan to enhance cooperationin 2021–2025,” he stated.
Regarding cooperation in COVID-19 control, KonstantinKosachev said that Russia is providing ASEAN with the necessary advisoryand practical assistance, while sending epidemiologists, test systemsand medicine to the region. Steps are being made to launchthe licensed production of the Sputnik V vaccinein Southeast Asia, he added.
Konstantin Kosachev emphasised Russia’sreadiness to share experience in digital transformation, ASEAN’spriority area, including the experience of introducing digitalsolutions tested in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), includingthe Travel Without COVID-19 mobile app and the Work WithoutBorders integrated search system.
According to the senator, Russia aimsto establish a dialogue platform with the ASEAN ten memberstates on digitalisation of the urban economy as partof the ASEAN Smart Cities Network. A range of jointprojects to facilitate electronic commerce, the creationof a network for female entrepreneurs, the introductionof innovations in the field of agricultureand the digitalisation of small and medium-sized businesseswill become Russia’s real contribution to the ASEAN DigitalCommunity.
On the occasion, the Deputy Speakerof the Federation Council of Russia invited ASEAN representativesto take part in the Third Eurasian Women’s Forumand the World Conference on Intercultural and InterfaithDialogue. The World Conference will take place between May 16 and 18, 2022 in St Petersburg.
