A passenger aboard an Indonesian helicopter was found alive two days after a light helicopter crashed in a lake in North Sumatra on October 11, said an official from the country’s national search and rescue agency.

The survivor is a passenger named Fransiskus Subihardayan, said Zainul Tjahar, spokesman of the national search and rescue agency, adding that the man was discovered conscious but his condition was weak, he was immediately hospitalised.

The man and four others on board jumped into the lake when the plane was passing through the lake as they felt there was something wrong with the chopper, according to the spokesman.

However, rescue forces only found the man at around 12:00 o'clock (local time) on October 13. The wreckage of the chopper and the four other victims who were on board are still being searched for.

Helicopter Eurocopter EC130, with five people on board – two crews and three passengers, lost communication with the North Sumatra air traffic control in the afternoon of October 11 while it was on a journey from Samosir Island to Kualanamu airport in Medan, the capital city of North Sumatra.-VNA
