HCM City’s youths join hands for social service activities

Nearly 200,000 members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, young people, and local residents in Ho Chi Minh City joined hands for a two-week voluntary social service campaign.

HCM City (VNA) - Nearly 200,000 membersof the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, young people, and local residents inHo Chi Minh City joined hands for a two-week voluntary social servicecampaign.

The campaign, part ofthe 2020 Youth Month, had been launched by the city’s HoChi Minh Communist Youth Union at the beginning of this month.

Ngo Minh Hai, deputy secretary of the union,said the activities focus on educating youths about Vietnam’s revolutionarytraditions and caring for people benefiting from the Government’s policiesand Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.

Propaganda activities to inform the publicabout the COVID-19 epidemic, environmental protection and reducing pollutionand improving the areas along canals and rivers were alsoundertaken.

Youth union members spoke to members of thepublic about waste classification at source, building of new-style ruralareas and civilised urban areas and buildingplaygrounds for children and environment-friendly toilets.

The Can Gio district youth union introducedproducts made from recyclable materials, organised training infirefighting and escape, launched a campaign called ‘Let's clean upthe ocean’, and donated face masks, hand sanitisers anddisinfectants.

The District 7 youth union organised classesin COVID-19 prevention and gave handbooks with prevention guidelines in 19languages.

A number of posters with instructionsfrom the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization onprevention were put up onbulletin boards and elevator doors in residential buildings in thedistrict.

Information and communication activities wereorganised to raise public awareness of the importance of trafficand fire safety.

The volunteers also collected used plasticbottles to raise funds for charity, donated crash helmets and health insuranceto poor-households and gave scholarships to disadvantaged students.

Members of the District 3 unit donated handsanitisers and saplings to people living in Nguyen Thien Thuat Apartment inDistrict 3 and encouraged them to use recycled materials to raiseawareness of environmental protection.

The annual Youth Month celebrates thefounding anniversaries of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3), HoChi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26) andNational Reunification Day (April 30).

The city's youth month this year stated ninegoals for its cells to accomplish, including participating in building civicurban lifestyle, paying homage to revolutionary bases, planting 3,000 trees,improving hygiene conditions of schools' bathrooms and attracting more membersto the league./.

Tien Giang strives to reduce poverty rate to 0.87% this year
