HCMCity (VNS/VNA) - Digital transformation will help enterprises in HCM City’s industrial zones (IZs)and export processing zones (EPZs) improve their competitiveadvantage in global economic integration by increasing productivity andimproving operational efficiency, experts have said.

Thecity has 17 IZs, EPZs and high-tech parks covering atotal area of more than 3,800 hectares with anoccupation rate of 73 percent. Over the years, the zones haveplayed an important role and been a driving force for the city's economicgrowth.

However, investment efficiency of the zones is still not high and theyface great challenges regarding competition from industrialzones in neighbouring provinces such as Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Long An and Ba Ria- Vung Tau.

DaoXuan Duc, deputy head of the HCM City Export Processing and Industrial ZonesAuthority (Hepza), said that digital transformation and application of smarttechnologies will help factories in the IZs and EPZs improve productivity, savecosts, protect the environment and create a safe workplace.

Digitaltransformation in enterprises means using information technology (IT) advancesand Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to run production, marketing, and financial and human resources management, Pham Huu Thoi, ERPdevelopment director of Lac Viet Company, said.

“Ithelps to manage each stage of the business operations effectively, and speed upthe progress of processing works,” he said.
Dataanalysis solutions also help businesses easily assess the currentsituation and develop business strategies to suit development trends.

However, many small- and medium-sized enterprises face challenges and barriers todigital transformation such as a lack of capital and human resources.

LeVan Trung, NetSuite solution director of BMT Viet Nam Company, saidthat many businesses were still doing work manually in manyprocesses. “Young businesses will change, but older businessesare not willing to embrace change and adopt new advancedtechnologies.”

QuangTrung Software City (QTSC) introduces practical applications suitable for manyEPZs and IPs such as Video Management Software (VMS), theguard control and monitor system (MiGuards) and Integrated OperationCentre (IOC).

These solutionselevate QTSC as among the most advanced technology parks in Asiancountries.

Tomake a breakthrough in digital transformation in the city’s EPZs andIZs, the city is expected to attract the participation of experts, thebusiness community, and government leaders. Exhibitions and seminars arealso needed to help business managers and owners learn about newtechnologies used in smart industrial zones./.
