HCM City’s CPI falls 0.3 percent in March

The CPI of Ho Chi Minh City in March fell 0.3 percent from the previous month, but rose 2.2 percent compared to the same period last year, reported the municipal Statistics Office on March 29.

HCM City (VNA) - The consumer price index (CPI) of Ho ChiMinh City in March fell 0.3 percent from the previous month, but rose 2.2percent compared to the same period last year, reported the municipalStatistics Office on March 29.

According to the office, the prices of six outof 11 goods groups saw a month-on-month decline, with the largest fall of 0.68percent recorded in transport.

It was followed by housing, electricity, fuel, and construction materials, by0.53 percent; drinks and cigarette by 0.5 percent; culture, recreation andtourism by 0.27 percent.

A drop of 0.3 percent was also recorded inrestaurant services, while the prices of commodities and other services fell by0.22 percent.

Meanwhile, the prices of equipment and household drinksclimbed 0.21 percent; medicines and healthcare services rose 0.05 percent;apparels, hats and footwear were up 0.09 percent in the month.

The prices of post and telecommunication and educationremained unchanged, the office said.

Earlier, Hanoi announced that its March CPI declined 0.22 percent over theprevious month but increased 2.7 percent over the same period last year.

Major reason for the drop is a reduction inprices of three goods groups - food and catering services; housing,electricity, fuel and construction materials; and transportation.

The average index in the first three months ofthis year rose 2.54 percent over the same period last year. An upturn was seenin 10 groups of goods and the only one experienced a fall.-VNA
