HCM City (VNA) - HCMCity will install odour-control manholes to eliminate the foul smell emanatingfrom sewers and reduce flood risks, according to the municipal People’sCommittee.
Speaking at a meeting on June 8,deputy chairman of the committee, Le Van Khoa, instructed the Department ofTransportation to install the new manholes on a trial basis in three crowdedresidential streets that are regularly flooded and have manholes clogged bygarbage.
The manhole has an odour-controlsystem and a net to prevent garbage and soil from going into the sewers andcreatures like rats from coming out.
The new manholes are made by the HCMCity Urban Drainage Company Limited, and cost around 20 million VND (883 USD)each.
The city has more than 87,000manholes in its roads and plans to replace around 50 of them on 15 streets.-VNA
