HCM City, RoK foster cooperation in smart agriculture

Ho Chi Minh City has high demand for investment, high-tech agricultural technology, smart farms for sustainable development, while the Republic of Korea (RoK) is one of the partners with advantages and cooperation experience in the field, experts said at a series of seminars under the Vietnam-RoK business week launched in Ho Chi Minh City on October 31.

HCM City (VNA) - Ho Chi Minh City has highdemand for investment, high-tech agricultural technology, smart farms forsustainable development, while the Republic of Korea (RoK) is one of the partnerswith advantages and cooperation experience in the field, experts said at aseries of seminars under the Vietnam-RoK business week launched in Ho Chi MinhCity on October 31.

Dinh Minh Hiep, Director of the municipal Department of Agricultureand Rural Development, said that the proportion of the value of agriculturalproduction applying high technology currently accounts for about 48% of thecity's total.

However, the local sector has yet to have smart farms mainlydue to their high cost and requirement of high-quality workforce, he added

Nguyen Thanh Hien, deputy head of the management board of HCMCity Hi-Tech Agricultural Park, said that the southern metropolis needs to takeadvantage of the cooperation with partners with technology potential andexperience like the RoK to develop joint programmes on training and experienceexchange between the sides’ managers, researchers, institutes and universities.

Talking about the potential for such cooperation, Han Young-eun from the Korea agricultural technology development institute, said that theRoK’s farming industry focuses on applying high technology and developing smart farms, and issearching for investment destinations serving agricultural development,including Vietnam.

According to her, Korean enterprises can support and workwith Vietnam in the construction of farms, the distribution of materials andequipment, and the development of smart farm models in line with the localclimate conditions.

In addition, they have the capacity to transfer technologiesto and assist Vietnamese firms in mastering new ones such as sensors, automatedrobots, drones, and artificial intelligence, towards building a smart,efficient and sustainable agriculture./.
