HCM City plans to reopen kindergartens, primary schools after Tet

Hanoi (VNA) – As HoChi Minh City has been a “green zone” for two straight weeks, local students willattend more in-person lessons while children from the preschool level to the 6th grade are expected to return to school after the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

The Lao dong (Labour) dailycited the municipal Health Department as saying that the southern metropolishas brought COVID-19 under complete control in schools.

According to the Departmentof Education and Training, students of the 7th, 8th, 10th,and 11th grades have resumed face-to-face learning since January 4,while the 9th and 12th graders earlier, since December13, 2021. About 92 - 96 percent of them are attending school in person.

Besides, the rate of parentssupporting school reopening has also increased by over 16 percent to under 80 percent.

From December 13 last year toJanuary 7, local junior and senior high schools recorded 130 cases of COVID-19,all of whom were teachers, school staff, and students, and they were handled inline with regulations, the education authority noted.

Nguyen Huu Hung, DeputyDirector of the department, said most of the cases contracted the coronavirusin their communities, and there hasn’t been any evidence of in-schooltransmission.

HCM City has brought thepandemic under complete control in schools, he added.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman ofthe municipal People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc said the administration hasasked the education department to make plans on reopening schools for children fromthe preschool level to the 6th grade after Tet, which falls in thefirst week of February.

Students will receive the bestpossible learning conditions with safety from the pandemic guaranteed, henoted./.
