HCM City looks to expand economic ties with Australia

Hanoi (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City wants to work with Australia to build an economiccooperation strategy, with the aim of become one of each other’s top 10 tradingpartners, said Politburo member and Secretaryof the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan.

During a reception for Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Robyn Mudie on January14, Nhan highlighted the fruitful development of the multifaceted relationsbetween the two countries in recent times.

He affirmed that HCM City always creates favourable conditions forAustralian enterprises to invest in Vietnam in fields such as hi-techagriculture, urban transport infrastructure, university education, vocationaltraining, information technology, human resources development and culture.

The city is promoting programmes to improve the quality of human resources, hesaid, adding that it expects to become a strategic partner of Australia in educationand innovation.

The HCM City leader said he hopesVictoria State in Australia will take part in investment and technologytransfer, and share its experience with HCM City in urban planning, publictransport, environmental improvement, innovation and startups.

Nhan expressed his belief that relations between Australia and Vietnam ingeneral and HCM City in particular will further thrive in the time to come.

He took the occasion to share his concerns about Australia's losses from the unprecedentedwildfires that are sweeping the country, saying that it is also a lesson for HCMCity in forest fire prevention.

For her part, Mudie said she will do herutmost to boost the flourishing relations between the two nations.

The Australian Government and businesses are interested in learning about,cooperating and sharing experience with HCM City – the southern economic hub ofVietnam, she said./.
