HCM City (VNA) - The Ho Chi Minh City People’sCommittee has asked district people’s committees, departments and otheragencies to ensure everyone has a “warm and sufficient Lunar Tet”, which fallson February 16.
The city’s Departmentof Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs has plans to allocate nearly 1.3trillion VND (57.2 million USD) from the city budget for these programmes.
Tran Cong Khanh, headof the labour affairs division at HCM City Export Processing Zones andIndustrial Parks Authority (HEPZA), said that 400 enterprises in HCM City’s 15industrial parks and export processing zones will spend more than 73 billionVND (3.2 million USD) for free tickets, gifts and year-end parties for poorworkers, ethnic minorities, and workers at companies that have been closedbecause of bankruptcy or a slowdown in production.
Workers who cannotreturn to their hometown for Tet holiday will benefit from HEPZA and theircompany’s social welfare programme.
HEPZA has called fornearly 6,000 free bus tickets for workers who are trade union members and havefinancial difficulties, and want to return to their hometown for Tet but cannotafford to buy tickets.
Workers affected byfloods and storms last year will be given priority to receive tickets onJanuary 27.
Trade unions at thecity’s industrial parks and export processing zones will present 3,000 gifts toworkers who have lost jobs due to their company reducing or stopping production.
Enterprises and otheragencies in the city’s industrial parks and export processing zones willorganize a spring fair to help workers buy standard goods for Tet at properprices.
The 400 enterprisesunveiled bonuses for their employees, with the highest of 950 million VND awardedby a domestic company and 359 million VND by a foreign-invested company.
Most employees of allcompanies in the city’s industrial parks and export processing zones willreceive one month salary as a bonus from 6.2 million VND each at domesticcompanies and 7.8 million VND at foreign invested firms.
The city’s Women Unionhas plans to spend more than 2 billion VND for gifts for its poor members andethnic minorities, poor residents on the country’s islands and those from otherprovinces who are not returning to their hometown for Tet holidays.
The Trade Union forthe city’s Department of Education and Training this year has unveiled itswelfare plan for teachers. Teachers whose wives or husbands have had a labouraccident or have an incurable disease will be presented 500,000 VND each.-VNA
