Hau Giang woos foreign investors to water supply infrastructure

Hau Giang (VNA) – The People’s Committee of theMekong Delta province of Hau Giang on May 4 held a video meeting with someforeign partners and investors on water supply infrastructure, and wastewaterand solid waste treatment projects in the locality.

Csaba Haranghy, anexpert from Singapore, said with its experience, the country would help Hau Giangdeal with issues regarding wastewater treatment and water loss prevention.

 Eszter Torda, internationaladvisor of Hungary’s Aqui-sanitas company, pledged to assist the province in investmentattraction, especially to water supply infrastructure, wastewater and solidwaste treatment.

According to Le Tien Chau, Chairman of the People’s Committee, 90percent of urban and 45 percent of rural residents in Hau Giang haveaccess to clean water. The province aims to supply clean water to all of itspopulation in the next few years.

He, however, pointed to a range of difficulties facing the local watersupply system like limited resources due to climate change, drought andsaltwater intrusion, water pollution as a result of industrial and farmingactivities, downgrading pipelines and water losses.

In addition, the province now lacks urban wastewater, and solid and hazardouswaste treatment facilities, he said./.
