Hau Giang: Rare pythons released back into nature

The forest protection department of the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang released two reticulated pythons back to nature at the Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve in Phung Hiep district on August 14.
Hanoi (VNA) – The forest protectiondepartment of the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang released two reticulated pythonsback to nature at the Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve in Phung Hiep district onAugust 14.

The python reticulatus are a rare species inclassification Group II, which consists of those restricted from exploitationor use for commercial purposes, according to the Government’s Decree No.32/2006/ND-CPon management of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals, aswell as Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade inEndangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

In early August, the forest protectiondepartment in Long My district also let free an owl, of the tyto alba species.

Head of the forest protection department in HauGiang Nguyen Vinh Phuc said the province has released a number of wild animalssuch as turtles and snakes back to their natural environment since the beginningof 2018.

The same day, wild animal protection centre FourPaws Viet coordinated with the forest protection department from the northernprovince of Thai Nguyen to save two moon bears (or ursus thibetanus) weighingover 100kg found from a local household in Thai Nguyen city. –VNA
