Hanoi voters concerned about East Sea tension

Voters in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh, Tay Ho and Hoan Kiem districts paid special attention to the country’s major issues, including the national sovereignty over the sea and islands, and the prevention of corruption, at meetings with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on June 30 and July1.

They expressed their pleasure with and belief in theParty and State’s policies and guidelines in leading the socio-economicdevelopment as well as solving the East Sea issue, and expressedtheir strong support to the Party and State’s measures in dealing withChina ’s illegal placement of its rig Haiyang Shiyoy-981 in theexclusive economic zone and continental shelf of Vietnam .

Voters also called for more drastic measures while promotingdissemination work to make the international community understand moreabout China ’s illegal actions and plot to monopolise the East Sea.

Affirming that the acts by China seriously violateinternational law and Vietnam’s sovereignty, sovereign right andjurisdiction as well as agreements between the two countries’ leaders,the Party leader reiterated Vietnam’s advocate to solving the issueby peaceful means on the basis of international law, including legalprocedures.

He called on voters to heighten vigilance to not letextremists take advantage of the issue to undermine the country’sconstruction and development achievements.

“It is our policy to resolutely safeguard the country’s territorial sovereignty,” he emphasised.

Atthe meetings, voters expressed their concern over corruption andwastefulness, stressing the need to drive back corruption, which isconsidered a dangerous enemy of the society.

Party GeneralSecretary Trong said the fight against corruption and wastefulness is acommon attention of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, theentire political system and the whole people.

During themeetings, the leader addressed voters’ concerns relating toeducation-training renovation and the ways to conduct votes ofconfidence on officials.

As for voters’ opinions, heaffirmed that all suggestions and comments are useful for the NationalAssembly to improve the quality of its upcoming sessions. He alsopromised to convey their recommendations to relevant agencies forconsideration.-VNA
