Hanoi has established 56 areas for large-scale aquaculture production in eight rural districts, according to the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi has established 56 areas forlarge-scale aquaculture production in eight rural districts, according to themunicipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The areas are located in the districts of Ung Hoa, PhuXuyen, Thanh Oai, My Duc, Ba Vi, Chuong My, Thanh Tri and Thuong Tin.

To expand the aquaculture farming area, Hanoi hastransformed lowland fields into farms for large-scale aquaculture production,mostly of common carp, grass carp and tilapia, and fruit farming. Some farmsstarted cultivating higher-value fish like black carp, hemibagrus guttatus andbass. Many of them also offer eco-tours.

However, farmers here mainly use traditional fish farmingtechniques and have yet to apply advanced agricultural practices like VietGAP.

According to a survey in 2017, the city’s total fishfarming area was estimated at more than 23,000 hectares, producing a combinedoutput of approximately 98,000 tonnes of fish.-VNA
