Hanoi seeks to boost ties with foreign cities

Hanoi (VNA) – A delegation ofhigh-ranking officials of Hanoi led by Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party CommitteeDao Duc Toan has made a tour of Turkey, Switzerland and Belgium recently topromote ties with major cities in the countries.

In Turkey, the delegation met with Vice Mayor ofAnkara on September 27, during which the two sides shared experience indevelopment policies and local governance, particularly in the fields of infrastructureand social welfare.

The delegation visited several historical relicconservation projects in Ankara and social housing quarters built at formerslum areas.

At a working session with First Deputy Mayor ofIstanbul Ahmet Selamet, Dao Duc Toan strongly recommended that Hanoi andIstanbul further their bilateral partnership in all aspects in the context ofthe growing ties between Vietnam and Turkey, as seen through the Turkish PrimeMinister’s visit to Vietnam in August 2017 and National Assembly ChairwomanNguyen Thi Kim Ngan’s visit to Turkey in October this year.

The Istanbul deputy mayor introduced the city’spotential and strengths to the guests, and expressed the wish to gain more informationabout policies on foreign investment of Vietnam in general and Hanoi inparticular.

During their stay in Switzerland, the Hanoidelegation had a working session on October 1 with Thomas Moser, official incharge of communications and external relations of Bern state.

The delegation affirmed Bern’s experiences inurban administration are useful for Hanoi in implementing its pilot project onurban administration.

In Brussels, the delegation held a meeting with officialsof the Wallonie-Bruxelles region, during which the two sides reviewed the cooperationbetween the two sides under a deal signed between Hanoi and the Wallonie-Bruxelles.

The meeting also pinpointed areas for future cooperationwhich will be included in an agreement to be signed between Vietnam’s Ministryof Planning and Investment and the region this November.

The Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee saidhe wished the two sides would boost collaboration in cultural heritageconservation, cultural and art exchange, and education-training. He also asked theWallonie-Bruxelles region to assist Hanoi in addressing waste treatment, animalhusbandry and animal slaughter, which are the region’s strengths.-VNA
