Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of the People’s Committeeof Hanoi Tran Sy Thanh on December 6 received visiting Mayor of Gold Coast cityin Australia’s Queensland State, Tom Tate, who suggested a number ofareas with good potential for bilateral cooperation such as education, environment andtourism.

Tate said that his visit aims to foster the partnershipbetween the two cities after a long period of COVID-19, opening uplong-term collaboration opportunities between the two sides.

The Gold Coast mayor particularly called for more cultural exchanges to promote mutual understanding and trust betweenthe two peoples, creating an important premise for the growth of the bilateralties.

For his part, Thanh highly valued the developing partnershipbetween Vietnam and Australia as well as Hanoi’s relations with some Australianstates. He underlined Hanoi’s interest in expanding cooperation with otherAustralian localities, including Gold Coast city.

The Hanoi leader briefed the guest on the capital city’s goal of building a livable city, affirming that the city hopes to facilitateconnections with other cities in the world.

Agreeing with Tate on potential cooperation areas betweenthe two cities, Thanh noted that those areas are of Hanoi’s interest during theimplementation of its urban development strategy, especially in technology,wastewater treatment and circular economy. Thanh emphasised that along with itsadvantages in workforce, Hanoi also has many high technology firms with fullcapacity for international cooperation.

The Hanoi leader said the city is also keen on boosting educationand tourism cooperation with partners, which is helpful for the city’sinvestment and trade collaboration expansion.

Thanh pledged that Hanoi will create optimal conditions forpotential cooperation projects and activities between the city and Gold Coastin the future./.
