Hanoi (VNA) – A conference aimingto boost trade links between Hanoi and other localities was held in the capitalon December 1.

According to Chairman of the municipal People’sCommittee Nguyen Duc Chung, Hanoi has connectivity with Bac Giang, Ha Giang,Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Son La in the north, the central province ofBinh Thuan and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong and the 13 southwestlocalities.

As a market with high purchasing power, Hanoihas modern infrastructure for commercial development in the country, with 21shopping centres, 118 supermarkets, 454 markets, over 600 convenient stores andover 50 farm produce and food stores. 

It is an emerging retail market, ranking 13th inthe list of the 19 most crowded retail markets in the world. 

According to the municipal Department ofIndustry and Trade, Hanoi organised 400 enterprises to join programmes to boostconsumption, and signed over 350 memorandums of understanding and economiccontracts with outside-city enterprises, contributing to stablising the marketand meeting the demand of residents.

Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, Deputy Director of the HanoiInvestment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Centre, said producers in manylocalities have yet to design packages and stamps for their products, stressingthat this is necessary to sell products in modern distribution systems. 

The centre had to ask enterprises and producersin other localities to pay heed to the issue, she said. 

Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of the Ha Giangprovince People’s Committee highlighted the importance of building geographicalinstructions for commodities to improve competitiveness of Vietnamese goods inthe context of integration. 

He suggested the Ministry of Industry and Tradeconsider establishing an e-commerce portal for farm produces. 

The ministry needs to build a mechanism to shareand provide information related to goods among industry and  trademanagement agencies, and enhance trade promotion to link goods suppliers andcontributors. 

Localities were urged to build and performprogrammes of clean and high-quality goods production and supply, towardsmeeting the demand of Hanoi consumers, while municipal authorities were askedto make it easy for localities’ goods to access the city.-VNA
