Hanoi gears up for Formula One Grand Prix

Hanoi will prepare the best infrastructure for the Formula One (F1) Grand Prix, meeting new requirements as regulated by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has said.

Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi will prepare the best infrastructure for the Formula One(F1) Grand Prix, meeting new requirements as regulated by the InternationalAutomobile Federation (FIA), Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen DucChung has said.

Themunicipal official made the pledge on April 15 while receiving Chase Carey,President and CEO of the Formula One Group, to discuss preparations for the F1Hanoi Grand Prix in 2020.

Atthe meeting, Chung said Hanoi is working with relevant agencies ontransportation and customs procedures, along with working towards visaexemptions for foreign spectators to come to the event.

Hetook the occasion to ask Formula One Group to help Hanoi learn from and connectwith firms responsible for hosting the race worldwide, ensuring quality of thesporting event.

Forhis part, Carey spoke highly of the project’s progress and lauded Hanoi’svision in choosing a suitable location for the track, close to the My DinhSports Complex.

Hevowed to facilitate the city in ensuring successful organisation of theinternational racing event, thereby promoting images of Hanoi and Vietnam.

Earlierthe same day, Chung and his guest inspected the construction site of the F1racetrack in Hanoi’s Nam Tu Liem district.

Constructionof the racetrack began on March 20. The circuit willbe more than 5.5km in length, with 22 turns. It will stretch over part of theMy Dinh Sports Complex, while one section will be part of a public road.

In addition, an area has been zoned off for the construction of acontrol centre, a grandstand, warehouse, parking lot and helipads to serveracing teams and spectators.-VNA
