Hanoi accelerates promotion of agricultural goods

Over past years, the agricultural sector in Hanoi and other localities have implemented solutions to improve the value of farming produce while promoting consumption in domestic and foreign markets.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Over past years, the agricultural sector in Hanoi andother localities have implemented solutions to improve the value offarming produce while promoting consumption in domestic and foreignmarkets.

Amongthese solutions include stepping up trade promotion activities forfarm produce, building brands and enhancing sustainable linkagechains to support businesses and cooperatives in finding and expandingmarkets.

DeputyDirector of Hanoi’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen NgocSon said that his department has teamed up with localities tobring hundreds of tonnes of the city's farming produce and thatof other provinces and cities into supermarket systems, conveniencestores and selling points under the One Commune One Product (OCOP)Programme.

Ithas also implemented measures to support businesses to promote theconsumption of essential goods through e-commerce channels, Son said. 

Headded that the municipal, agricultural sector would promote tradepromotion activities and connect tourism promotion with programmesadvertising agro-forestry-fishery products.

Atthe same time, it will develop raw material areas to serve processing factoriesand expand markets for advantageous products such as high-quality rice,late-ripening longan and bananas.

NguyenQuoc Toan, Director of the Agricultural Products Processing and MarketDevelopment Department, said the agricultural sector had thus far thisyear helped numerous agricultural products be placed on shelves ofsupermarkets such as Big C, AEON, Hapro and Winmart. 

It alsofacilitated the presence of farming produce on reputable e-commerce platforms,including Alibaba, Amazon, Sendo, Voso and Shopee.

Meanwhile, theauthorities have coordinated with embassies and the Vietnamese tradeoffices overseas to establish channels intended to provide the latest informationon key export markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, the US, Europe andChina. This will help localities and exporters assess and forecastthe market and promptly draw up effective solutions. 

Accordingto Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam, besidesproposing localities to develop processing industries, the ministry hasfocused on implementing solutions to boost production to ensure domesticsupply and serve exports. 

Theministry is co-ordinating with authorities and businesses tofacilitate border trade activities, accelerate customs clearanceprocedures, and prevent stagnation of goods, Nam said. 

Headded that it also paid attention to solutions to support trade promotionactivities, diversifying goods distribution methods, and stimulating domesticconsumption to prepare for harvest seasons.

Namsuggested localities that are home to sizeable raw material areas takeinitiatives to support the consumption of agricultural produce and avoidgoods stagnation.

Theyshould also update information on the production and circulation ofagricultural products in the locality to adjust production plans accordingto market demand.

Onthe other hand, associations, industries and businesses need to closelyco-operate with functional agencies of the ministries of agricultureand rural development and industry and trade to speed up the volume ofgoods consumed in the local market and develop more productionlinkages to stabilise the prices of agricultural produce, according to Nam. 

Topromote the consumption of agricultural products, state management agenciesshould support businesses to issue traceability stamps, said Bùi ThịHạnh Hiếu, general director of Bao Minh Business Agricultural ProductsProcessing JSC in Hanoi.

Forher company, Hieu added, it will focus on building high-quality rice materialareas, investing in deep processing and building its brandsto expand consumption in the domestic market and targeting exportoutlets later. 

Besidesthe assistance of authorities and agricultural sectors, businesses need tofocus on improving product quality, diversifying direct and online saleschannels to cut costs and bring their products to consumers easilyand conveniently, said the head of the Vietnam Retailers Association Vu ThiHau.

Chairmanof Dong Giao Foodstuff Export JSC Dinh Cao Khue agreed. He saidhis company had facilitated technology appliances in the deepprocessing of passion fruit for the official export quota.

In2020, Dong Giao Foodstuff's unofficial quota of passion fruit exportsaccounted for 75 percent of its total export. This figure was 25 percentin 2021.

Thanksto the promotion of the official export quota, the price of productsincreased to 20,000 VND from 7,000-10,000 VND per kg./.
