Hai Phong to apply social distancing in COVID-19 hit areas

Social distancing measures will be implemented in areas of northern Hai Phong city which have recorded new COVID-19 patients, according to the city’s leaders at an urgent meeting held on February 22.

HaiPhong (VNA) - Social distancing measures will be implemented inareas of northern Hai Phong city which have recorded new COVID-19patients, according to the city’s leaders at an urgent meeting held on February22.

Themove came after the city announced a community-transmission case of COVID-19earlier the same day.

The26-year-old patient, working as a receptionist at Hai Phong city’sHospital of Transport, was detected through mass screening and confirmed by theHai Phong Medical University Hospital and the city’s Preventive MedicineCentre.

Areasrelating to the patient’s travel records will be isolated while Loi Dong hamlet,Hoang Dong commune, Thuy Nguyen district where the patient lives and Hai Phong city’sHospital of Transport where she works have been locked down.

Thehospital has stopped receiving patients and is making a list of medicalworkers, patients and their relatives for quarantine.

Thecity’s authorities also asked for temporary suspension of some non-essentialactivities in the city.

Vicechairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Khac Nam said the city neededto raise COVID-19 prevention and control to a higher level and proposed thecity to temporarily cancel the operation of golf courses, dental clinics andmassage centres.

Chairmanof the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tung said COVID-19 preventionand control stations of the city and districts still could not supervise allpeople who come to or leave the city. Therefore, he proposed to apply thestrongest measures in COVID-19 prevention and control following GovernmentDirectives No 15 and 16 and strictly punish violators.

ThePeople’s Committee February 22 would issue decisions to put some areas underlockdown following COVID-19 prevention and control regulations, according to Tung.

LeVan Thanh, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the municipalPeople’s Council, said it was essential to focus on reviewing and isolatingareas relating to the patient’s travel, promptly tracking down and identifyingpeople who were in close contact with the patient./.
