Ha Nam praised for high economic growth

Ha Nam (VNA) – Vice Chairman of the NationalAssembly Phung Quoc Hien praised the northern province of Ha Nam for recordinghigher economic growth than the country’s average in 2016 and the first quarterof 2017 during a working session with the provincial leaderson April 7.

The locality has made a breakthrough in FDI attraction,while launching tourism projects and gaining positive outcomes in buildingnew-styled rural areas, noted Hien, who was on a visit to Ha Nam to evaluatethe province’s implementation of the NA’s resolution on socio-economicdevelopment plan for 2016 and the first quarter of 2017.

He asked Ha Nam to show better performance in planning,while focusing on developing organic agriculture to provide farm produce forHanoi, its major market.

The province should also pay greater attention to developinghi-tech industry without affecting the environment, as well as industriesserving agriculture and tourism, he suggested.

According to Chairman of the provincial People’s CommitteeNguyen Xuan Dong, in the first quarter of 2017, Ha Nam maintained a highgrowth, with agricultural production value of over 2.29 trillion VND (100.6million USD), a rise of 4.4 percent over the same period last year, andfulfilling 29.2 percent of the yearly target.

Meanwhile, its industrial production index rose 9.9 percentyear-on-year, he said, adding that social policies were effectivelyimplemented, and political security and social safety were ensured.

He proposed the amendment of some legal regulations tosupport investors, including those related to land use andinvestmentregistration.

The Ha Nam leaders also asked for more capital support toimplement major projects, including Tam Chuc tourism area’s infrastructurebuilding, the hi-tech agriculture area, and the branches of Viet Duc and BachMai hospitals.

The province also needs support in making a dossier askingfor the Government recognition of the Long Doi Son pagoda in Duy Tien districtas a national special relic site.-VNA
