Ha Giang repairs landslide roads due to heavy rain

The northern mountainous province of Ha Giang is urgently repairing several roads that have been severely damaged by landslides due to many days of heavy rain.

Ha Giang (VNA) - The northernmountainous province of Ha Giang is urgently repairing several roads that havebeen severely damaged by landslides due to many days of heavy rain.

Ma Quoc Truong, Deputy Chairman of the People’sCommittee of Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province, said the road from the district’scentre to some communes including Tat Nga, Nam Ban, Niem Son and Niem Tong hasbeen blocked for days due to prolonged heavy rains causing soil and rock tofall down the road.

The most seriously damaged section of roadpasses through Tat Nga commune, where such a large amount of rocks slid ontothe road that traffic came to a standstill.

Prolonged heavy rains in Xin Man in recentdays caused the highway from Bac Quang district to Xin Man district, and theroad from Coc Pai town to the Xin Man border gate to become seriously crackeddue to landslides. It became nearly impossible for local people to travel alongthe roads.

In Bac Me district, heavy rains lastingfrom the night of August 7 through the whole day of August 8 caused waterlevels in rivers and streams to rise, seriously damaging homes, cops and Stateworks. 

According to preliminary statistics, heavyrains damaged dozens of hectares of rice in Minh Ngoc commune. The spillway ofMinh Ngoc commune to Thuong Tan commune, Bac Me district was partially washedaway by the flood, causing the main road to Thuong Tan commune to becomeseparately blocked.

According to Yen Bai province’s SteeringCommittee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue, after the heavyfloods in late July, the province has provided nearly 5 billion VND (215,000USD) to the families of dead and missing persons and people whose homescompletely collapsed.

The province also provided nearly 20 tonnesof rice, instant noodles and drinking water and six tonnes of dried food forflood victims.-VNA
