Hanoi (VNA) – The Ha Giang provincialadministration and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) held aconference in Hanoi on September 22 in an effort to beef up cooperation betweenthe northernmost locality and foreign non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Addressing the event, VUFO Secretary-General and Vice President DonTuan Phong thanked foreign NGOs for their contributions and practical supportto the development of Vietnam, including mountainous provinces, for many years.
He pledged VUFO will keep close coordinationwith and the best possible conditions for foreign NGOs to carry out programmesand projects for the sake of Vietnam’s sustainable development.
From 2004 through 2016, Ha Giang benefited from98 programmes and projects with 19 million USD disbursed by 57 foreign NGOs.Major contributors like Plan, Caritas, ActionAid Vietnam, Vision Care, BlueDragon Children’s Foundation have helped the province develop socio-economicinfrastructure, health care, culture, education, agriculture, forestry, andmanpower training, among others.
Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’sCommittee Ha Thi Minh Hanh stressed that foreign NGOs’ projects have helped HaGiang create jobs, eliminate poverty, prevent diseases, reduce genderinequality and climate change, protect the environment, and promote sustainabledevelopment.
She asked foreign NGOs and internationalorganisations to continue and expand their programmes and projects in Ha Giang.She also called on them to choose the province to carry out programmes inhealth care, education, social issues settlement, poverty eradication, genderequality promotion, environmental protection, natural disaster prevention, and traditionalculture preservation.
Hanh affirmed that local authorities and sectorswill simplify administrative procedures, ensure security and order, and providefavourable conditions for foreign NGOs.
At the conference, NGO representatives sharedexperience and submitted proposals relating to project implementation in theprovince.
The provincial People’s Committee and the NGOsalso inked cooperation agreements on the execution of programmes and projectsin Ha Giang.-VNA
