Germany-supported project helps Vietnam manage forests

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) on August 19 jointly organise a conference to review a project to promote Vietnam’s sustainable management of natural forest and marketing of important forest products.

Conducting in nine years fromSeptember 2005, the Germany-supported project has helped twoVietnamese state forestry enterprises reach all requirements of theForest Stewardship Council (FSC) standard on sustainable forestmanagement.

Thanks to the project’s support, theenterprises became the first attaining FSC Forest Management and Chainof Custody (CoC) certification on natural forest management, which isthe most successful approach of the project.

Ascovering Yen Bai, Quang Binh, Kon Tum, Dak Lak and Ninh Thuan, theproject also supported these localities with policy and institutionalconsultations, as well as organisational reform, economic developmentand capacity improvement.-VNA
