General Tran Dai Quang – respected commander of public security force

Before becoming the President in April 2016, General Tran Dai Quang had worked in the public security sector for years and served as Minister of Public Security from 2011 to 2016.

Hanoi (VNA) – Before becomingthe President in April 2016, General Tran Dai Quang had worked in the publicsecurity sector for years and served as Minister of Public Security from 2011to 2016. 

During his 40-year career in thepublic security sector since he was an officer of the Political ProtectionDepartment until he took over the Presidency, General Quang made an impressionwith his decisive and humanitarian actions.

Under his leadership, the publicsecurity force busted a series of important cases, including economic andcorrupt ones, and handled “black society” bosses as well as those involved inlaw violations.

Thanks to his instructions, thequality of investigation and crime settlement was improved and theinvestigation process was sped up.

The General kept a close watch oncriminal cases, ordered forces to soon bring masterminds of many key cases tocourt and visited families of victims.

Officers and soldiers in the publicsecurity force who met him or received his instructions have expressed theirrespect and admiration for General Quang.

Major General Phan Van Lai, head ofthe liaison board of police reinforced to the southern battlefield in the resistancewar against the US, could not hide his grief over the General’s passing.

“In the public security sector, comradeQuang was a sharp and smart officer who was devoted to the revolutionary causeof the Party and State, and the sector in particular,” he said.  

Major General Nguyen Quang Phong, headof the liaison board of retirees of the Nha Cong An Trung Uong – the governingbody of the public security force, recalled General Quang’s contributions toensuring national security and safety, and fighting hostile forces when thecountry faced various difficulties.

Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Ngoc Bang, formerDirector of the Police Department of Criminal Verdict Execution and JudicialAssistance, said comrade Quang, regardless of his position as Minister orPresident, always paid attention to criminal verdict enforcement and judicialassistance.

Days before passing away at theMilitary Central Hospital 108 on September 21, General Quang, in his capacityas the President, was sill busy with his job.

The President will be remembered byall officers, soldiers and Vietnamese people as a leader close to the peopleand dedicated to work, and a commander who always accompanied the publicsecurity sector.

PresidentTran Dai Quang passed away at 10:05am on September 21 in Hanoi at the age of 62 due to seriousillness.

Thefuneral of President Tran Dai Quang will be held under national mourningetiquette.

The respect-paying ceremony will start at 7am onSeptember 26 at the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi.

The memorial service will be held at 7:30am onSeptember 27 at the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi. The burial ceremony will take place from 3:30pm onthe same day in the President's native land in Quang Thien commune, Kim Sondistrict, Ninh Binh province.

At the same time, at the Thong Nhat Hall in HoChi Minh City and the Hall of the People’s Committee of Kim Son district, NinhBinh province, respect-paying and memorial ceremonies for President Tran DaiQuang will also be held.

Vietnam Television and Radio the Voice ofVietnam will broadcast live the ceremonies in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and KimSon district, Ninh Binh province.

During the two-day national mourning period onSeptember 26-27, national flags will be flown at half-mast at State offices andpublic places, and recreational and entertainment activities will besuspended.-VNA
