HCM City (VNA) – Hundreds of appetising dishes and drinks are waiting for local and international gastronomes at the sixth southern food festival 2016, which is underway at Dam Sen Park in Ho Chi Minh City from May 28 to June 1.
The annual event is jointly held by the city’s Tourism Department and other organising units, aiming to promote Vietnam and the southern region’s fine dining arts and cuisine culture, to home and foreign tourists alike.
Spectators to the event will have a chance to savour four cookery styles from the country’s Central Highlands, southern and central regions, and from “Sai Gon” (Ho Chi Minh City) and join in several extraordinary activities such as a floating market, or retracing the work of traditional trade villages in mat and basket waving, incense making, and rice vermicelli making, among others.
During the five-day event, traditional art aficionados will also have an opportunity to experience the southern folk music Don Ca Tai Tu from many authentic rural singers and instrumentalists.
Some of this year’s event highlights are the “Em yeu mon Viet” (I love Vietnamese food) programe for children, and fruit and vegetable sculpture competitions.
The event is expected to welcome about 100,000 visitors.-VNA
