Hanoi (VNA) – A funeral was held inHanoi on January 16 for the three police officers who died a week ago whileperforming their duty of ensuring order and security for building protectivewalls around the Mieu Mon airport in Dong Tam commune, Hanoi’s suburbandistrict of My Duc.
Attending the event were Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Head of the Party CentralCommittee’s Mass Mobilisation Commission Truong Thi Mai, Head of the PartyCentral Committee’s Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh, President of theVietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man, and Minister ofPublic Security To Lam.
Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen ThiKim Ngan sent wreaths to the funeral.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc wrote in thefuneral book that the three are brave officers who sacrificed their lives tosafeguard national security and safety for the society and the country.
The disturbance erupted in themorning of January 9 in Dong Tam commune, where some units of the Ministry ofNational Defence and competent forces were building protective wallsaround Mieu Mon airport as planned.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, anumber of rioters, armed with grenades, petrol bombs and other weapons,attacked those working at the construction site.
Three police officers and one rioter died duringthe incident, while another rioter was injured in the incident.
Relevant units arrested serious law violatorsfor punishment in line with law.
Hanoi police on January 10 decided toprosecute the case on the charges of “murder”, “illegally storing and usingweapons” and “resisting on-duty officials”.
On January 13, the police issued a decision tostart legal procedures against 22 people in the case.
According to Chief of the Office andSpokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security To An Xo, the present securitysituation and social order in Dong Tam commune are basically stable, with localresidents doing their daily activities normally.
The competent units are continuing to build thewalls at the Mieu Mon airport as planned./.
