Fulbright University gets investment certificate

It will be the first non-profit private university in the country.

Thomas Vallely, chairman of the Trust for University Innovation inVietnam (TUIV)- Fullbright University Fund, expressed his pleasure inreceiving the certificate for the university that will be located in theSaigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP).

He said proficient Vietnameselecturers and adequate infrastructure for scientific activities would becrucial to the university’s success.

Le Hoai Quoc, head of theSHTP management board, noted that Vietnam’s Fulbright Economics TeachingProgramme was the outcome of co-operation established 20 years agobetween the HCM City University of Economics and Harvard University’sJ.F. Kennedy School of Government.

Fulbright University willprovide training in high-tech fields, Quoc said, adding that the SaigonPark has pledged support to expediting the project’s operation.

Meeting with intellectuals from the Harvard University, Trong thankedthe university for training a number of Vietnamese officials.

Vietnam aims to achieve rapid, sustainable development, he said. Heexpressed his hope that professors and scientists from HarvardUniversity in particular and from the US in general would furthersupport Vietnam in scientific research and human resources development.

Professor David Dapice of Harvard University stressed thatgrowth in labour productivity must be accompanied by global knowledgeintegration.

He expected Fulbright University to fostereducation ties between Vietnam and the US, and contribute to increasingthe quality of university education in Vietnam.

On thesidelines of the Party leader’s official visit to the US, Planning andInvestment Minister Bui Quang Vinh met with leaders of the Coca ColaCompany, General Electric group and Apple Inc.

Minister ofIndustry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang met the US Trade Representative andDeputy Secretary of the US Department of Commerce.-VNA
