Forum to discuss Vietnam’s reform, development issues

– The reform of market economicinstitutions is one of the issues to be debated at the second Vietnam Reformand Development Forum (VRDF) in Hanoi on September 19, said Minister ofPlanning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung.

Besides, the forum will touch upon innovations and creations to overcome themiddle-income trap amidst the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and prioritised actionsfor a prosperous Vietnam, he said.

The minister stressed that the forum aims to collect opinions of domestic andforeign experts to serve the research and building of the 2021-2030socio-economic development strategy, and orientations and tasks of the socio-economicdevelopment plan for the 2021-2025 period.

The forum takes place in the context that Vietnam is about to conclude itsthird ten-year socio-economic development strategy (2011-2020), and enter a newdecade and era with many development opportunities and challenges, Dung added.

Themed “Vietnam: Aspiration for prosperity –priority and action”, the forum is a follow-up of the Vietnam Development Forum(VDF) but its agenda will be more inclusive.

VRDF has a wider participation of policy makers, development partners, domesticand foreign experts, and private businesses. The forum has been held annuallyin 2018-2021.

Participants will exchange views on the country’s reform and development issuesto seek short-term and long-term solutions as well as specific actions toobtain rapid and sustainable development.

The theme of VRDF 2019 illustrates the effortsof the Government and people towards promoting innovation and startup,increasing labour productivity, and building national innovation capacity.

It also demonstrates the strong commitments ofthe Vietnamese Government to modernise the market economy, integrate into theworld, and promote innovation for sustainable development./.
