Hanoi (VNA) – A burial service for former General Secretary of theCommunist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Do Muoi took place in hisnative land in Dong My commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi at 1pm of October 7.

Attending the ceremony were Party General Secretary NguyenPhu Trong, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat TranQuoc Vuong, permanent National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong,permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, President of the VietnamFatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man, leaders and former leadersof the Party and State, representatives from mass organisations, localities,armed forces, and people from walks of life.

Leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, VietnamFatherland Front, comrades, compatriots, and family of the late Party chiefobserved a one-minute silence to pay their last respects to Do Muoi.

During his over 80-year revolutionary career, Do Muoi hadmade great contributions to the struggle for national liberation andreunification and the building of socialism.

He held many important positions of the Party andGovernment, leaving major imprints in each position and contributing to thenational development, especially the development of heavy industry and theindustrialisation and modernisation process in the spirit of building anindependent and self-reliant economy.

Specially, with a motto of “Vietnam is willing to be afriend of every country”, the leader helped open a new chapter for thecountry’s external relations, creating breakthroughs in its external relationsand international integration.

His passing is a great loss to the Vietnamese Party, Stateand people, leaving a profound grief for comrades and compatriots nationwideand international friends.

On behalf of the funeral organising board and the deceased’sfamily, permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, head of the board,expressed thanks to mourners for attending the tribute-paying and burialservices for the leader, seeing him off at his final resting place. –VNA
