Flag hoisting ceremonies mark ASEAN’s 56 founding anniversary
A flag hoisting ceremony took place in New York city on August 8 to mark the 56th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (August 8, 1967-2023).

Hanoi (VNA) – A flag hoisting ceremonytook place in New York city on August 8 to mark the 56th founding anniversary ofthe Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (August 8, 1967-2023).
Present at the ceremony included ambassadors fromASEAN member states, heads of the bloc’s delegations, consulategenerals of some ASEAN member states in the city, and Mayor of New York city EricAdams, among others.
In his remarks, Consul General of Indonesia in NewYork Winanto Adi emphasised significance of the event, presenting the bloc’sgrowing strength in politics, culture and economy in the city.
He expressed his belief that this willcontribute to further fortify the multifaceted bond between ASEAN and New York.
For his part, Mayor Eric Adams expressed his honour asthe first leader of the city to co-chair the ASEAN flag hoisting ceremony and spoke highly of the important contributions by the ASEAN community to the city’s socio-economicdevelopment.

On the same day, flag hoisting ceremonies were held inmany countries worldwide, including the Netherlands and Russia, to mark the anniversary of the regional grouping.

An Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) flag-hoisting ceremony was held in Hanoi on August 8 to mark the bloc’s 56th founding anniversary (August 8, 1967 - 2023) and 28 years of Vietnam’s membership of the association.
